Go Fever

We start tomorrow! People who participate in races frequently will talk about "Go Fever." Though not a medically diagnosable condition, it describes the anxiousness one feels at the start of any big event, like a race. Hearts pounding. Sweat starts before you even exert. Thoughts race as you prepare for the starting gun. Go Fever can cause a runner to jump off the blocks too early. It can cause an endurance racer to expend too much energy at the start, ruining the rest of the race. And it can cause the racer to make mistakes that can get him or his competitors hurt.

I've got it.

I woke up this morning excited. I'm pumped to get started. I have all sorts of speeches worked out in my head, and all sorts of plans to get a good start. The question now is how well I execute. Whether I follow the plans and do it all the "right" way. Avoiding mistakes. Pacing myself. Throttling in the Go Fever. Excitement is good, when you use it to fuel your good efforts.

I stand at the starting line. 3... 2... 1....
