What cancer can go do to itself

I said it on Twitter, but I figured I'd copy it here, too. Whatever it takes to put cancer on notice:

I learned yesterday that cancer has touched someone in my life again. It was not invited. It is not welcome. And if my friends have anything to say about it, they and their little girl will beat it down as soon as humanly possible.

I hate cancer. I hate it. If cancer were a man, I would kill it in the most painful, sadistic, humiliating fashion I could imagine... and my imagination is pretty vivid. I would make cancer look me in the eyes as I took its life.

I have a lot of reasons I became a teacher, but one of them is this: I educate kids because I want someday -- someday soon -- to live in a world free of cancer. I want one of my kids to write me one day and say, "Mr. Gier, I just made cancer my bitch."

%$*# you, cancer. %$*# off and die.

I have composed a remarkably concise description of myself, which 1,200 characters is too small to contain.
